FC Barcelona will play in front of their home supporters for the first time in the 2026-27 LaLiga season. Hansi Flick’s side host Athletic Club this Thursday at the Spotify Camp Nou in a Matchday 1 fixture that was postponed due to the number of players from both teams involved in the latter stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Blaugrana arrive in excellent form after beginning their title defense with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Elche. Athletic, meanwhile, will look for an immediate response after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Sevilla at San Mamés.

Now, both teams will make up their postponed fixture with an opportunity to collect important points during an intense start to the season.

It will be Barça’s first official home match of the season.

Flick’s objective is very clear: win a third consecutive LaLiga title. The German coach made it clear ahead of the match that there is still plenty of hunger inside the dressing room to lift the trophy again and that his team is ready to fight for it.

Their opening match already provided an early warning to the rest of the league.

Barcelona cruised past Elche and will now look to reproduce that level in their home debut, although they will face an opponent that has historically been capable of making life difficult for them.

Possession, pressing immediately after losing the ball and speed down the wings will once again be among the main weapons for a Barça side looking to take control from the opening minutes.

Athletic Club arrive in Barcelona following a difficult start to the season.

The Lions lost to Sevilla in their opening match and must now visit the defending champions in search of their first points of the campaign.

Edin Terzić said ahead of the game that he believes his team are ready to earn a positive result at the Camp Nou. The coach named a 24-man squad for the match, although he will have to deal with some absences.

One of them will be Yuri Berchiche, whose suspension remains in place after the club’s appeal was rejected on Thursday.

Athletic will need to withstand Barcelona’s periods of heavy pressure and use their speed in attack to cause problems whenever they recover possession.
