Lewandowski Opens the Door To Leaving Barça and Joining MLS
The Polish striker admitted he is considering offers outside Europe and did not rule out finishing his career in a “smaller league” after his time at Barcelona.
Robert Lewandowski has opened the door to leaving FC Barcelona at the end of the season and admitted that he is seriously considering a move to a “smaller league,” further fueling speculation linking him with Major League Soccer in the United States.
The Polish striker spoke during Barcelona’s LaLiga title celebrations following their victory over Real Madrid and surprised many by suggesting that his time at Camp Nou could be approaching its end.
“There could be an option in a smaller league. I’m almost 38 years old, but I still feel physically good, so I’m considering it,” Lewandowski told Polish broadcaster Eleven Sports. “I have to think about the possibility that it may be time to play and enjoy life. Maybe that opportunity will come, and I’m not ruling it out.”
His comments have intensified rumors surrounding a potential move to MLS, with clubs such as Chicago Fire reportedly interested in signing the veteran forward.
Lewandowski’s future remains uncertain. Although Barcelona are said to have offered him a contract extension, several reports suggest the club wants him to accept a significant salary reduction in order to continue.
“What will I do in the fall? I don’t know. I just found out that I have 51 days left on my contract, so there’s still time. I’ll listen to a few more offers and then decide,” the striker explained.
Lewandowski also reflected on the remarkable career he has built in European football. The former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich star expressed pride in winning titles everywhere he has played.
“I’ve won a total of 14 league titles, and I’ve won championships with every club I’ve played for. That impresses me a lot and makes me proud,” he said.
At nearly 38 years old, Lewandowski remains one of football’s biggest stars, but his latest comments suggest the final chapter of his career could take place away from Europe’s top leagues.
