Laporta Ends the Ter Stegen Controversy and Confirms Progress on Barcelona’s Pending Registrations
Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, addressed the media during the club’s Asian tour in Seoul to clarify the situation regarding the registration of young goalkeeper Joan García, stressing that it is not directly tied to Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury.
“The registration of Joan García does not depend on Ter Stegen’s absence,” Laporta stated. “What happens is that his injury, being a long-term one, is the most straightforward path to completing the registration.” If LaLiga’s Medical Committee confirms that the German goalkeeper will be sidelined for at least four months following his back surgery, the club would be able to allocate 80% of his wages toward the registration of García, which would also help with the pending registration of new signing Marcus Rashford.
Barça fever takes over Seoul: street football, retro shirts, and fan excitement
Barcelona’s visit to South Korea has caused a frenzy among local fans. Since their arrival, players have been followed everywhere by enthusiastic supporters. At a promotional event hosted by Nike at its Seoungus-dong store, stars like Hansi Flick, Alejandro Balde, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Marcus Rashford were welcomed as true football icons.
A highlight of the night was a street football competition where Barça players acted as team captains, selecting local Korean players for a 1v1 tournament. Teams led by Gavi and Frenkie de Jong reached the final, where De Jong’s representative came out victorious in front of a roaring crowd that celebrated the win as if it were a real match.
After the contest, the players visited TOMA Seoul Market, where they explored Korean culture and saw their names printed in Hangul on Barça jerseys. They also toured a retro jersey section featuring shirts of legendary players from Europe’s top clubs.
Barcelona’s preseason tour has sparked tremendous excitement in South Korea, a country that hadn’t hosted the team in over 15 years. As the club continues to handle registration matters quietly behind the scenes, its impact—both on and off the pitch—keeps growing.
