A Personal and Painful Confession

At only 18 years old, Lamine Yamal is already a global star, but he has also faced deeply painful episodes in his life. In an interview with journalist José Ramón de la Morena on the podcast Resonancia de Corazón, the FC Barcelona forward spoke about his family roots, his debut with the first team and, above all, the day he was told that his father had been stabbed.

The youngster recalled how, still just a teenager, he received the shocking news during a family phone call: “Imagine being a kid and being told your father has been stabbed. I tried to take the train to Mataró, but they wouldn’t let me. It was very hard. The next day I had training, but then I spoke to my father, he told me he was fine, and I was able to calm down.”

From La Masia to the Elite

In the conversation, Lamine also looked back on his debut with Barça against Real Betis at only 15, the confidence shown by Xavi Hernández and his own mother’s initial doubts: “She was scared, she told me they were too big and I was too small. But I told her not to worry, that if I played, I would be the best.” That day, after making his LaLiga debut, he had dinner with his family before returning to sleep at La Masia — unable to close his eyes from the excitement.

His Roots and His Present

The young forward also recalled the story of his parents and grandparents, who emigrated from Morocco and Guinea to Spain, slowly building the family foundation that now supports him. Yamal also spoke about how his life changed once he became a global football star: “Before I could go out for a drink with my friends, now not at all. But I’m happy.”

Finally, he addressed the controversy surrounding his recent 18th birthday party: “They tried to smear it in many ways, but I didn’t get angry.”
