Jules Koundé Defines His Future With Barcelona
French defender Jules Koundé secures his stay with Barcelona until 2030, confirming his role as a cornerstone in Hansi Flick’s plans.
Renewal That Strengthens the Project
Barcelona officially announced this Friday the contract extension of French defender Jules Koundé until June 30, 2030. The 26-year-old, who joined from Sevilla in the summer of 2022, was initially tied to the club until 2027. The new deal will be signed in an event attended by president Joan Laporta, highlighting the importance of his continuity.
During the team’s preseason tour in Asia, at the end of July, Koundé himself had already revealed that everything was set for the renewal until 2030 once they returned to Barcelona. “The club and I wanted the same thing: to continue together. I’m very happy, I feel comfortable with the squad, and I’m thankful to be at a club that fights for titles every year,” the Frenchman had declared.
Key Piece in Flick’s Strategy
Under German coach Hansi Flick, Koundé has become an irreplaceable starter. Last season, he played 53 matches, mostly as a right back, although he still identifies himself as a central defender. “I’m always available for the coach, but I feel more like a center-back since that’s the position where I grew up,” he explained.
Since his arrival, Koundé has collected major trophies with the club, including two Spanish Super Cups (2023 and 2025), one Copa del Rey (2025), and two LaLiga titles (2023 and 2025). With this renewal, he looks to take another step forward in his career and solidify his leadership in the Catalan defense.
