Javier Aguirre Nears Valencia Move and LaLiga Return
Javier Aguirre could be very close to returning to one of the places he knows best: a LaLiga dugout.
According to ESPN, the Mestalla club has intensified talks with the Vasco and is preparing a formal offer in an attempt to convince him to take charge of the project.
For now, there has been no official announcement and no contract has been signed, but Aguirre’s name has gained considerable momentum in recent days.
Braulio Vázquez Searches for Valencia’s New Manager
The potential appointment is part of the significant changes Valencia has made following a start to the season that fell well below expectations.
The club announced the departure of Carlos Corberán and his coaching staff on September 13, while also ending its relationship with football CEO Ron Gourlay and several other members of the sporting structure.
Another major decision followed that same day: the return of Braulio Vázquez as sporting director.
Braulio will now play a fundamental role in selecting the next manager, and Aguirre has emerged as one of the strongest candidates.
The Mexican knows Spanish football extremely well and, above all, understands what it means to take charge of teams that need immediate results.
The Vasco’s Experience Could Open the Door to LaLiga Again
Few Mexican coaches know LaLiga as well as Aguirre.
During his extensive career in Spain, he has managed Osasuna, Atlético de Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés and Mallorca, building a reputation as a coach capable of competing under pressure and quickly adapting to different squads.
That profile could be particularly attractive to a Valencia side that began the season near the bottom of the standings and desperately needs to change its momentum.
According to ESPN, the Mexican's potential arrival would also be well received inside the dressing room, where his experience and clear message are viewed positively.
However, Aguirre reportedly has other options on the table and will still need to fully understand the project Valencia intends to offer before making a decision.
Aguirre Could Return to Spain After the World Cup
The opportunity comes just months after the end of his spell with Mexico.
The Vasco led El Tri at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Mexican national team advanced to the Round of 16 before being eliminated by England.
Following the tournament, Rafael Márquez took control of the national team, leaving Aguirre available to consider a return to club football.
Now Valencia could become his next destination.
The talks still need to result in an agreement, and the club has not officially announced who its next manager will be. The sporting project and the conditions offered to the Mexican coach will be fundamental in determining his future.
