Jürgen Klopp Out of Real Madrid’s Shortlist: German Coach Awaits Another Offer
Jürgen Klopp is out of Real Madrid’s plans. As the club searches for a new coach, the German has his sights set elsewhere… and it’s not the Bernabéu.
Klopp out of Real Madrid’s radar: a decision that ends the noise
The name of Jürgen Klopp once again fueled speculation around the Real Madrid bench, but this time the outcome is clear: he is not on the list. Despite recent rumors, the German coach is not part of the club’s selection process.
According to reports from Diario AS, the board is already evaluating other profiles and never seriously considered the former Liverpool FC manager. This effectively closes another chapter in a recurring narrative linking Klopp to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Following an inconsistent spell under Álvaro Arbeloa, who took over after Xabi Alonso departed, urgency has grown around appointing a new leader. Still, inside the club, the process remains far more calculated than the outside noise suggests.
A recurring story: admiration without a deal
The connection between Klopp and Madrid feels like a “never-ending almost.” Since his Borussia Dortmund made waves in Europe back in 2012, his name has repeatedly surfaced whenever the Madrid bench becomes available.
Real Madrid has shown time and again that it doesn’t react to external pressure. A clear example was the return of Carlo Ancelotti in 2021, a move executed with patience and precision. Now, the same approach applies: focus on the right profile, not the biggest name.
Within the club, there’s also a belief that many of the rumored candidates are pushed by agents trying to generate interest elsewhere. In that sense, Klopp’s name has once again been part of the media cycle rather than the actual plan.
Klopp’s real target: Germany on the horizon
While Madrid looks for a coach, Klopp has a clear roadmap: the German national team.
He has great respect for current manager Julian Nagelsmann, but many see Klopp as the natural successor, especially after the 2026 World Cup.
For now, Klopp remains committed to his role as Global Head of Soccer for Red Bull, overseeing projects like RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.
There’s also a key factor: he is in no rush to return to coaching.
Since leaving Liverpool in 2024, Klopp has openly spoken about the demands of elite football, describing the daily grind as “erosive”. His next step, therefore, needs a different rhythm—something a national team role can offer.

Madrid accelerates… without Klopp in the picture
At Valdebebas, the message is clear: a decision is coming soon. The club aims to appoint its new coach by the end of LaLiga to properly plan transfers and prepare for the next cycle.
Meanwhile, Arbeloa will remain in charge for the final stretch of the season, though his role appears temporary.
What stands out is that, without Klopp in the equation, the shortlist narrows to more specific profiles—likely coaches who are immediately available and tactically aligned with the current squad.
