Is Messi Returning to Barcelona? A Presidential Candidate Will Call Him
Víctor Font promises to call Leo Messi if he wins the FC Barcelona elections and directly challenges Laporta
Businessman Víctor Font, leader of the Nosaltres platform and candidate for the presidency of FC Barcelona, said that if he wins the elections on March 15, his first move will be to contact Leo Messi to “rebuild bridges” with the club’s greatest legend.
Font, who finished second behind Joan Laporta in the previous elections, stressed the need to restore Barça’s relationship with its historical figures. “We need to rebuild bridges with the club’s legends, and with him in particular,” he emphasized.
Hansi Flick, absolute priority; Xavi does not plan to return
On the sporting side, Font confirmed that Hansi Flick is his top choice for head coach.
“He’s very professional and will be happy when he sees a serious structure,” he said.
Regarding Xavi Hernández, Font was blunt: “Xavi doesn’t want to come back. He felt deceived.”
Elections as a plebiscite: “Barça or Laporta’s outdated model”
Font described the elections as “the most important in the club’s history” and framed them as a plebiscite between two models: “Barça or the outdated, personalist model represented by Joan Laporta.”
“It’s time to move from ‘me’ to ‘us,’” he said at an event held after the official announcement of the election date, accompanied by figures from Barça’s social and economic circles.
Push for a united candidacy against Laporta
The candidate acknowledged talks with other hopefuls to build a joint ticket: “We’ve been talking for a long time. The doors are open to everyone who shares our vision.”
Font argued that the ideal scenario would be to reach the polls with just two ballots, making the choice clearer for members.
Criticism of the club’s economic and social management
Font denounced what he called a management marked by “opacity and deception,” citing cases involving legends such as Messi, Xavi, and Koeman, as well as multimillion-euro commissions and questionable economic decisions.
From Nosaltres’ economic area, Jaume Guardiola warned of €230 million in losses despite activating more than €800 million through financial levers, and questioned the selection of the contractor for the new Spotify Camp Nou.
“Barça must return to its people”
The event also highlighted the club’s social crisis. Representatives from the Blaugrana community agreed that members, supporters’ groups, and local fans feel increasingly distant from the institution.
“These elections are not about choosing a person, but a club model: transparent, professional, and centered on its people,” Font concluded.
