How serious is Kylian Mbappé's injury and how long will he be out?
Real Madrid confirmed Kylian Mbappé's diagnosis after his injury with France. Tests ruled out a more serious problem and there is now an estimated timeline for his return.
Kylian Mbappé has suffered a hyperextension of the posterior capsule in his left knee, Real Madrid confirmed on Saturday, with the forward expected to need approximately 10 to 12 days to recover.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by Real Madrid's Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee. His progress will be monitored,” the club announced in an official statement.
Medical tests ruled out a more serious injury after the forward left the France camp and returned to Madrid.
How did Mbappé get injured?
Mbappé suffered the injury on Friday during France's match against Turkey on the opening matchday of the Nations League, which also marked Zinedine Zidane's debut as France head coach.
The forward scored the goal that gave France a 1-0 victory in the 54th minute, but was injured during the same play.
Mbappé struck the ball with his right foot while hurting his left leg, which was planted as he took the shot.
He initially attempted to continue but eventually left the match before departing the France camp and returning to Madrid for medical tests.

How long will Mbappé be out?
Mbappé's estimated recovery time is between 10 and 12 days, although Real Madrid said his condition remains subject to his progress.
That timeline will keep him out of France's next three matches.
However, if his recovery goes according to schedule, Mbappé could be available when Real Madrid return to action.
The Spanish club's next match is scheduled for October 10 against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Could Mbappé play against Villarreal?
The initial recovery timeline leaves open the possibility of Mbappé returning against Villarreal.
If he completes the estimated 10-to-12-day recovery period without complications, the French forward could be available for Real Madrid's return to competition.
His availability, however, will depend on how his left knee progresses over the coming days.
Another Real Madrid player returned injured from France duty
Mbappé is not the only Real Madrid player to suffer a physical setback during the international break.
Ibrahima Konaté also left the France camp and returned to Madrid.
According to Real Madrid, the defender suffered an “injury to the collateral ligament in his right leg.”
