He’s Not Leaving After All! Barcelona Open to Keeping Robert Lewandowski
When an exit seemed inevitable, FC Barcelona have left the door open for Robert Lewandowski to remain beyond this season. At 37, the Polish striker continues to make a difference on and off the pitch.
The future of Robert Lewandowski is once again a major talking point in Barcelona. Despite his age and persistent links to MLS and the Saudi Pro League, the Blaugrana have not ruled out the possibility of keeping their veteran No.9 for at least one more season. What looked like a certain farewell just months ago is now a far more open scenario.
Lewandowski’s contract is entering its final stretch, and the option to leave as a free agent in the summer is very real. However, both the player and the club have agreed not to rush a decision, preferring to evaluate the situation calmly as the season unfolds.
Lewandowski Still Delivering on the Pitch
Within the coaching staff led by Hansi Flick, Lewandowski remains an important figure. While Ferran Torres has filled the striker role in several matches, the numbers continue to support the Polish forward. He finished last season with 46 goals in all competitions and has already reached double figures again this campaign.
His most recent contribution proved decisive, as he scored in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, delicately lifting the ball over Thibaut Courtois to underline that his finishing touch remains intact. Moments like that reinforce the belief inside the club that he can still be a difference-maker on the biggest stages.
Beyond goals, Lewandowski’s influence in the locker room is significant. He is widely respected for his professionalism and leadership, particularly by younger players such as Lamine Yamal, who see him as a role model during their development.
Offers, Uncertainty, and a Decision Still to Come
Interest from abroad has not faded. In the United States, Chicago Fire FC are reportedly among the clubs eager to lure him to Major League Soccer, while financially powerful teams from the Saudi Pro League are also prepared to make a strong push. Even so, Lewandowski has made it clear that there is no urgency.
“I still have time to make a decision,” the striker has said, stressing that his future will depend both on Barcelona’s sporting plan and on his own personal feelings. The club shares that stance. Both the board and Hansi Flick acknowledge that Ferran Torres cannot shoulder the attacking burden alone over an entire season.
With 111 goals already scored for Barcelona and just ten more needed to break into the club’s all-time top 10 scorers, parting ways with Robert Lewandowski is far from straightforward. For now, the message is clear: his departure is not a given, and the door remains firmly open.
