Gonzalo García Puts Mbappé on Another Level, but He’s Not Afraid to Replace Him at Real Madrid
Gonzalo García scored a hat trick in Real Madrid’s 5–1 win over Real Betis and said he did not feel any added pressure replacing Kylian Mbappé, who was sidelined with a knee injury. The young forward praised the French star, calling him “the best player in the world,” and highlighted the confidence shown in him by the coaching staff and his teammates.
Gonzalo García answers Mbappé’s absence with goals
“I didn’t feel extra responsibility. Mbappé gives us so much with his goals, but I just try to do my best,” García said after an unforgettable night at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The academy product enjoyed a dream start to the year, scoring three goals — one with his right foot, one with his left, and one header — in what he described as a very special match, made even more meaningful by doing it at home in front of the fans.
The victory also carried a strong Real Madrid academy stamp, with Raúl Asencio and Fran García also finding the net. “It’s a really nice coincidence and a great message for the rest of the academy,” Gonzalo noted.
Despite his standout performance, the forward remained grounded and avoided talking about increased opportunities. “This is Real Madrid, and in front of me are the best players in the world. I just focus on myself and on making the most of the chances the coach gives me,” he said.
