According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Arsenal for a permanent transfer worth around €10 million plus add-ons. The striker is expected to undergo his medical on Monday after receiving permission from the London club to travel to Barcelona.

There are still a few final steps to complete before the deal can become official, but everything points to the Brazilian continuing his career in LaLiga.

From Atlético to Barcelona in a Matter of Hours

The situation changed very quickly for Gabriel Jesus.

Just one day earlier, as we reported, the striker had emerged as an alternative for Atlético Madrid. The Brazilian had been offered as a possible option to strengthen Diego Simeone’s attack amid all the uncertainty surrounding the future of Julián Álvarez.

However, Barcelona ultimately accelerated their pursuit of the 29-year-old after effectively finding the door closed on a move for Julián.

The Argentine was one of the Catalan club’s main options to strengthen the striker position, but Atlético’s board maintained its stance that it would not negotiate his departure to Barcelona. This Sunday, Julián Álvarez returned to training with the Rojiblancos after several days away from the group.

Faced with that situation, Barcelona identified Gabriel Jesus as a much more accessible opportunity and accelerated talks with Arsenal in an attempt to complete the deal before the transfer window closes.

A Low-Cost Deal for Barcelona

The price is one of the factors that makes the deal particularly attractive.

Gabriel Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 for a fee of around £45 million. Four years later, Barcelona could land him for approximately €10 million plus add-ons.

The Brazilian’s contractual situation has also helped significantly reduce his value. His contract with Arsenal expires in June 2027, while his role in Mikel Arteta’s team had become increasingly limited.

For Barcelona, he also represents a different profile for Hansi Flick’s attack. Jesus can operate as a center forward, start from a wide position or interchange positions with other attacking players.

He is not simply a finisher inside the box. His movement, pressing and ability to combine with teammates could provide the Catalan side with different solutions, especially in matches where Flick needs greater mobility in the final third.

His Knee Will Be One of the Key Areas to Assess

There is, however, one important factor to consider before the deal can be fully completed: his physical condition.

Gabriel Jesus has dealt with several physical problems during his time in London, and a significant knee injury affected his continuity. For that reason, the medical examinations scheduled before he signs will be particularly important.

The Brazilian is looking to rediscover the consistency he showed during some of his best years in England. With Manchester City, he scored 95 goals in 236 official appearances before moving to Arsenal, while he has surpassed 30 goals for the Gunners since arriving in 2022.

At 29, he still has extensive experience at the highest level, knows what it takes to compete for trophies and has also played numerous matches in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona Find an Alternative to Julián Álvarez

Gabriel Jesus’ potential arrival also connects two of the biggest stories from the final days of the transfer window.

While Julián Álvarez remains at Atlético and clubs such as Manchester City and Arsenal have emerged as possible destinations for him, Barcelona needed to find an alternative that could be completed before the market closes.

In a matter of hours, Gabriel Jesus went from being a potential option for Atlético to having a move to Barcelona firmly on track.

Now, one of the final obstacles remains. The striker must pass his medical examinations and then complete the final formalities before officially becoming a new Barcelona player.

If everything goes according to plan, Hansi Flick will have a new striker for his squad and Gabriel Jesus will begin a new chapter of his career in Spain after a decade in English soccer.
