Florentino Pérez Gets Emotional During Lucas vázquez’s Farewell: “He Gave His Heart and Soul for Madrid”
Florentino Pérez showed his most sentimental side during the farewell ceremony for Lucas Vázquez, a Real Madrid youth product who is leaving the club after playing 402 matches and winning 23 titles. The president had nothing but praise for the Galician player, highlighting his values and commitment.
"Among the players who have given their all and truly embodied the club's values, there’s one of our great academy graduates. Today is the time to say thank you to our dear Lucas Vázquez for everything he’s given to Real Madrid," began Florentino. He continued by calling him a role model.
"You’ve been the perfect example of what it means to be a Real Madrid player — dedicated, selfless, and always putting the club first," the president said. "You leave behind a record that’s part of our club’s history. But beyond the titles, for all of us, you represent what every academy player should aspire to. You were the star of that endless sprint during the path to La Undécima. You’ve spent half your life at Real Madrid — thank you for giving so much. You will always be one of us. As president, I’m proud to have had a player like you. Real Madrid is and will always be your home."
In his speech, Lucas Vázquez emphasized that he is leaving "at peace," knowing he gave "everything he had" to fulfill the dream of his life. For him, it’s not a goodbye, but a "see you later."
“I’m leaving with peace of mind, knowing I gave everything I had. I fulfilled the dream of my life. And I did it at the greatest club in the world. There’s no greater pride. So yes, I’m leaving, but Real Madrid will always be a part of me. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you soon. Because I was happy here, I am happy here, and I will always be Lucas Vázquez, a Real Madrid academy player.”
