Fermín López Reveals Which Player Convinced Him to Reject Chelsea’s Millions and Stay at Barcelona
Fermín López admitted that several Barça heavyweights convinced him to turn down Chelsea. Among them: Ter Stegen, Araújo, Pedri, and Raphinha.
The bid that shook the market
In the final week of the transfer window, Chelsea launched an offensive to sign Fermín López. The Blues put $46 million plus add-ons on the table, but Barcelona stood firm, demanding at least $105 million for their 22-year-old midfielder. Although the Catalan club would have considered a sale if the player had forced the move, Fermín never wavered: staying at Barça was his top priority.
The locker room’s influence
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the academy product admitted that several teammates gave him the final push to remain in Catalonia. “I had a few conversations with some of them. The locker room supported me a lot this week, and everyone wanted me to stay,” he explained.
Among the names he mentioned were heavyweights like Marc-André ter Stegen, the captain despite being injured, along with Ronald Araújo, Pedri, and Raphinha. The backing of these leaders confirmed that his place is still at Camp Nou.
The symbolic value of his decision
For Barça, keeping Fermín in the middle of financial turbulence means more than rejecting a fortune. It’s a bet on a homegrown player with a long-term future. For the midfielder, it’s also a statement: he prefers to establish himself at the club of his life rather than chase a payday in the Premier League.
Chelsea will now have to look elsewhere for reinforcements, while Barcelona celebrates that one of its young talents chose heart over checkbook.
