Dani Olmo Defends Julián Alvarez: “We All Have Dreams”

Dani Olmo backed Julián Alvarez after the Argentine striker expressed his desire to leave Atlético Madrid and join Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

Dani Olmo spoke about one of the moves that failed to materialize during the transfer window: Julián Alvarez's potential move to Barcelona. The Spanish midfielder admitted he does not understand Atlético Madrid's refusal to negotiate the Argentine's departure after the striker had expressed his desire to join the Catalan club.

“I don't understand it. We all have our dreams. Julián was clear about that. He fought for his dreams, but in the end there are external situations that you can't control,” Olmo said.

The Barcelona player also praised the Argentine striker, describing him as “a great No. 9” and “one of the best players in the world.”

Olmo Confident in Barcelona's Squad

Despite Julián Alvarez's transfer failing to materialize, Olmo insisted that Barcelona has more than enough quality to compete for every trophy this season.

“Life goes on, this doesn't stop. We have a very good year ahead of us and a lot of competition because the other clubs have strengthened very well, but we have more than enough quality in the squad to fight for everything,” he said.

The World Cup winner also made the Catalan club's objectives clear: defend its LaLiga, Copa and Super Cup titles while also pursuing the Champions League.

The comments came during a ceremony honoring Olmo in Terrassa, his hometown, after he became a World Cup champion with the Spain National Team in July.

After being welcomed at City Hall and signing the city's guest book, the player stepped onto the balcony to address the fans in attendance. There, he acknowledged that lifting the World Cup represented the fulfillment of one of his biggest personal goals.

“I fulfilled a dream I've had since I was a kid, winning the World Cup. I'm more eager than ever to keep bringing joy to my people, and I'm going to do it, both with the national team and with Barcelona,” he said.

Olmo hopes the success will continue and even left open the possibility of returning to Terrassa next year with more trophies as he begins another season with a Barcelona side determined to compete for every major honor.
