Barcelona Will Not Sign Rashford Permanently
The future of Marcus Rashford appears to be almost decided. Barcelona does not plan to activate the purchase option for the English forward, which is set at €30 million. As a result, Rashford will return to Old Trafford once his loan spell with the Catalan club comes to an end.
The player himself hinted at this situation by removing any reference to being a Barcelona player from his social media profiles. All signs suggest that his time with the Blaugrana has come to an end. However, his long-term future also does not seem to be at Manchester United. Reports from England indicate that Michael Carrick does not fully see him as part of his plans for the next sporting project, although that situation could change depending on his performances at the FIFA World Cup.
Gordon's Arrival Changed the Situation
The possibility of Rashford's departure had been anticipated for several weeks. The arrival of Anthony Gordon, who plays in a similar position, increased doubts about the English attacker's future. The surplus of players in that area of the pitch, combined with the significant investment made to sign Gordon and Barcelona's defensive priorities, ultimately cooled negotiations for a permanent transfer.
However, according to Sport, the door is not completely closed. Barcelona has already informed the player that it will not activate the purchase option under the current terms, but the club continues to explore alternatives that could lead to renewed negotiations. This keeps open a scenario that could favor Rashford's stay at the club.
Julián Álvarez Remains Barcelona's Top Target
Meanwhile, Barcelona's sporting department remains focused on signing Julián Álvarez to strengthen the attack following the departure of Robert Lewandowski. The Argentine striker is the club's primary target, and much of its financial and sporting efforts are currently directed toward completing the deal.
However, if a move for Álvarez fails to materialize, the situation could change significantly. In that case, Rashford would once again emerge as a viable option, and Barcelona would have room to resume talks with Manchester United in search of a new agreement.
For now, Rashford remains fully focused on the FIFA World Cup with England, aware that a strong tournament could open the door to new opportunities and ultimately determine his future ahead of next season.
