Barcelona Registers Joan García and Marcus Rashford Just in Time for LaLiga Kickoff
Barcelona successfully registered Joan García and Marcus Rashford only hours before their LaLiga opener against Mallorca, easing concerns over financial fair play restrictions.
Last-Minute Registrations
The start of LaLiga came with suspense for Barcelona, which confirmed the registrations of goalkeeper Joan García and striker Marcus Rashford only a few hours before their debut at Son Moix. Both players were cleared to participate and were included in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Club president Joan Laporta admitted the process was complicated due to strict financial fair play rules but praised sporting director Deco for managing to finalize the paperwork in time. “These procedures are always nerve-racking, but the requirements were met so both players could be ready for the first matchday,” said Laporta.
Flick Shapes His Squad Amid Key Absences
With Rashford and García available, Flick gains valuable reinforcements, though several key figures remain sidelined. Polish forward Robert Lewandowski is out with a hamstring issue, while Marc-André ter Stegen and Marc Bernal are also unavailable due to injury.
The German coach completed his call-up list with academy talents like Guillermo Fernández, Toni Fernández, Jofre Torrents, and Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernández, who all participated during preseason.
In LaLiga’s official roster, Joan García appears registered for the first team, albeit without a shirt number yet, while Rashford is expected to take on a major attacking role right from the start.
A Squad Aiming High
Despite administrative hurdles, Laporta expressed confidence in the team’s potential. “We are very pleased with the squad and convinced that Barcelona will compete for every title this season. It won’t be easy, but we expect unforgettable moments for our fans,” he concluded.
