Barcelona Pressures United Rashford Wants to Stay in Spain and Flick Considers Him Key to the Project
Barça seeks to finalize the permanent purchase of Rashford, while United demands the 35 million from the clause and rules out new loans
Rashford's growing relevance
Marcus Rashford is once again a key player in the transfer market. The English striker, after a notable loan to FC Barcelona, became a top priority for Hansi Flick. With 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 games, the German coach considers him a key player in his long-term offensive plan
Negotiations open again
The Catalan club, according to talkSPORT, is preparing new negotiations with Manchester United before the 2026 World Cup. The intention is to finalize a definitive agreement, as Rashford accepted a salary reduction and a restructured contract to facilitate the operation. However, the main obstacle remains the price: the English demand that the purchase clause of almost 35 million dollars included in the initial loan be activated.
At Old Trafford, the stance is clear: there will be no more loans. United is looking for a definitive separation this summer and to free up the striker's salary as part of their reconstruction. Deco, the blue-and-maroon sporting director, tried alternatives such as a loan with an obligation to buy, but the English rejected that formula.

Complications for the transfer
The pressure is mounting because Rashford's salary increased after qualifying for the Champions League, which reinforces United's need to sell him. Still, in Barcelona, they trust that the player's desire to stay in Spain will tip the scales. Rashford does not want to return to Manchester and has discouraged interest from other clubs, reducing the options for the English in the market.
Barça is exploring flexible payment options, such as deferred installments or a purchase obligation in 2027. However, the entity admits that paying the 35 million may be inevitable. The alternatives on the table, such as Julián Álvarez from Atlético de Madrid or Joao Pedro from Chelsea, are more expensive and offer little room for negotiation. That's why Flick insists: Rashford must continue wearing the blaugrana.
