Barcelona keeping close tabs on Gilberto Mora, the rising star of the U-20 World Cup and Liga MX
Mexican talent is once again on Europe’s radar. A LaLiga giant is already keeping a close eye on one of the brightest young stars in Liga MX.
The Mexican Gem Everyone’s Watching
At just 16 years old, Gilberto Mora has become one of the most closely followed prospects in Mexican football. His breakthrough with Xolos de Tijuana has caught the attention of several clubs — not only in Mexico but across Europe.
According to journalist César Luis Merlo, FC Barcelona have been monitoring the youngster closely and have already established contact with his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, who also represents Erling Haaland and Santiago Giménez.
Barça’s Approach
The Catalan interest intensified after the Mexico vs. Spain match in the Group Stage of the U-20 World Cup Chile 2025, where Mora stood out as one of the most promising talents on the pitch.
Reports indicate that members of the Blaugrana staff met with the player’s representatives to discuss a possible move once he turns 18, in compliance with FIFA regulations.
The presence of Rafa Márquez, former Barcelona B coach and current collaborator with the Mexican national teams, is said to have been key in providing the club with first-hand insight into Mora’s talent and mentality.
Mora’s Path Ahead
Despite the growing interest, Mora will remain at Tijuana at least until 2026, when he reaches adulthood.
His camp and the club are determined to manage his progress carefully: “The goal is for him to arrive ready, not burned out before his time,” sources close to the player said.
Additionally, his potential participation in the 2026 World Cup under Javier Aguirre could significantly boost his market value and make him one of Mexico’s most anticipated exports to Europe.
Mexico Back in Europe’s Spotlight
For now, Xolos can enjoy having one of the continent’s brightest young prospects in their squad.
And if Barcelona’s growing interest proves anything, it’s that Mexican talent is once again lighting up Europe’s football radar.
