Barcelona Gives Up on Haaland and Could Target Another Super Striker Rising at Borussia Dortmund
Barcelona moves away from Haaland and shifts focus to another elite striker, the Borussia Dortmund sensation.
The New Name on Barça’s Radar
FC Barcelona seems to have accepted that Erling Haaland will not arrive at Camp Nou. The Norwegian is financially out of reach for the club, which is why Barça has started exploring more realistic options. In this context, the name of Serhou Guirassy has gained momentum in recent hours. According to Bild, Hansi Flick is closely following the 29-year-old Guinean striker, who is shining at Borussia Dortmund and is under contract until 2028.
The big obstacle, however, is the price. The German outlet claims Dortmund would demand around €100 million, a figure that currently seems far too high for Barcelona, which is still struggling with financial limitations.
Barça’s Nemesis in the Champions League
The interest in Guirassy is no coincidence. Flick experienced his quality firsthand in last season’s Champions League, when the striker scored a hat-trick at Signal Iduna Park in the quarter-final second leg. Although Barça had already sealed the tie with a 4-0 win in the first leg, the African’s display left its mark. His physical presence, goal-scoring instinct, and consistency turned him into one of the most feared forwards in the competition.
Standing at 1.87 meters, Guirassy finished as the top scorer of the 2024-25 Champions League, tied with Raphinha, both with 13 goals. That achievement did not go unnoticed by Barça’s sporting management, which sees him as an attractive option to bolster the attack.
A Future Without Lewandowski
The debate over Barcelona’s attack is also tied to the future of Robert Lewandowski, whose contract was automatically extended until 2026 after meeting the requirement of playing 55% of last season’s official matches. At 37, the Polish striker remains crucial, but the club knows it must plan for a long-term replacement.
Meanwhile, Guirassy continues his scoring streak in the Bundesliga, where he has already netted four goals this season and trails only Harry Kane in the scoring charts, with eight. A proven profile with European experience, he is emerging as one of the most serious alternatives for Barcelona.
