Barcelona Do Not Prioritize Bernardo Silva Move
Bernardo Silva has become one of the most attractive free agents on the market after bringing his successful spell with Manchester City to an end. For years, the Portuguese midfielder was one of Barcelona’s top transfer targets, with the club exploring several opportunities to sign him. However, the current situation is very different, and a move to the Catalan side is no longer among the club’s main priorities for next season.
Hansi Flick Believes the Midfield Is Already Well Covered
According to Sport, the final decision regarding a potential move will rest with Hansi Flick. The German manager believes the squad already has plenty of players capable of operating in the areas where Bernardo Silva usually excels, reducing the need to strengthen that position.
Flick’s system relies on a dynamic midfield, featuring players who can seamlessly switch between attacking and defensive responsibilities. In that area, Barcelona already boasts established names such as Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi, as well as valuable alternatives including Marc Casadó, Dani Olmo, Fermín López, and even Ferran Torres in certain situations. Competition for places is so intense that finding regular minutes and a clearly defined role for Silva would not be an easy task.

Barcelona’s Priorities Lie Elsewhere
Furthermore, the club’s sporting department believes the team’s most urgent needs are in other areas of the pitch. Barcelona are looking to strengthen their defensive structure to provide greater balance to Hansi Flick’s project, meaning much of the club’s financial and sporting efforts will be directed toward that objective. The recent addition of attacking profiles such as Anthony Gordon has also reduced the urgency of adding more creative talent.
Despite that, Bernardo Silva continues to view Barcelona as one of his preferred destinations. The Portuguese international knows the city well, has personal ties there, and would require virtually no adaptation period. His tactical intelligence, ability to combine in tight spaces, and versatility would fit naturally within the club’s football philosophy.
However, there is also an economic factor to consider. Although Barcelona have significantly improved their financial situation and the departure of Robert Lewandowski freed up a substantial portion of the wage bill, Silva’s salary demands remain high and would require a considerable financial commitment.
The player has already expressed his desire to resolve his future before the FIFA World Cup. He is not short of options. Both Atlético de Madrid and Juventus have shown interest in his situation, meaning that if Barcelona do not accelerate negotiations, the Portuguese star could choose another destination in order to arrive at the World Cup with his contractual future fully settled.
