Barcelona Completes Anthony Gordon Signing And Sets Arrival Date
FC Barcelona has reportedly secured one of the biggest signings of the summer after beating several European giants for the English star.
Barça lands its first major signing of the summer
FC Barcelona has officially completed the signing of Anthony Gordon, who will become the club’s first major reinforcement ahead of the 2026-27 season.
According to reports from Spain, the Catalan giants reached a final agreement with Newcastle United for a deal worth €70 million plus another €10 million in bonuses, mainly tied to titles won and the player’s importance within the team.
The English winger is expected to sign a five-year contract and arrive in Barcelona this Thursday to undergo medical examinations before the move is officially announced.
Deco quietly accelerated the operation
Over the last few hours, much of the media attention had focused on a possible Barça move for João Pedro. However, the real target of Deco, Bojan, and Joao Amaral was Anthony Gordon.
Negotiations reportedly moved extremely quickly and were finalized thanks to the player’s strong desire to join Barcelona before linking up with the England national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Inside the club, there is a strong belief that Gordon perfectly fits the attacking profile Hansi Flick wants, especially because of his versatility to play primarily on the left wing while also being capable of operating as a central striker.
Barcelona beat Bayern Munich and Liverpool
One of the most significant aspects of the deal is that Barcelona managed to beat clubs such as Bayern Munich and Liverpool, both heavily interested in signing the England international.
Liverpool’s interest was particularly strong considering Gordon was born in the city and maintains close family ties to the area and the club’s environment.
Still, Barcelona’s sporting project ultimately convinced the player to choose the Blaugrana as the next step in his career.
The World Cup accelerated the move
Barcelona wants the transfer fully completed as quickly as possible due to the proximity of the 2026 World Cup.
Players selected by Thomas Tuchel for England are scheduled to begin training camp on June 1, meaning Gordon wants his future completely resolved before joining the national team.
Within Barcelona, there is also growing belief that the English forward could become one of the key pieces of the club’s new sporting project and an important figure in the next generation of the team’s attack.
