Atlético Madrid Warns About Julián Álvarez Amid Rumors Linking Him to Barcelona
Enrique Cerezo backs Julián Álvarez and calls for calm at Atlético Madrid
Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo voiced his support for Argentine forward Julián Álvarez, insisting there is no concern within the club over his current form and predicting that he “will return to being the Julián Álvarez we all know.”
“He’s a fantastic player and we don’t know exactly what’s going on, but he’s fighting. The other day he played an incredible match but didn’t score. The goals will come. There’s no need to put pressure on him—he’ll score when he has to,” Cerezo said ahead of the Association of Sports Press of Madrid (APDM) awards gala.
The Atlético president also addressed the club’s overall situation and its outlook ahead of the winter transfer window. “Atlético are doing very well. We’re working on it, someone will come in, don’t worry. Rumors have always existed and always will. We need to wait until the end, stay calm, and sign players wisely,” he explained.
Regarding reports of tensions over transfers between sporting director Mateu Alemany and head coach Diego Pablo Simeone, Cerezo was emphatic in dismissing any issues. “The relationship is perfect. I see them getting along just fine—they’re not scratching each other. It’s a great relationship,” he said.
Finally, Cerezo referred to Atlético’s decisive final match of the UEFA Champions League group stage, calling it “very important.” “We have to fight for it, we have to win, and we have to do so by a goal difference. Who knows—maybe we’ll score four on Wednesday,” he concluded.
