Atlético Madrid Sends Warning To Barcelona Over Julián Alvarez
Julián Alvarez is emerging as one of the biggest names of the summer transfer window, but Atlético Madrid wants his future resolved as quickly as possible.
Atlético wants a quick resolution to Julián’s future
Julián Alvarez is expected to become one of the hottest names of the upcoming European transfer window.
However, inside Atlético Madrid, the club’s stance is very clear: they do not want to spend the entire summer dealing with endless speculation surrounding the Argentine forward’s future.
Executives at the Metropolitano believe the uncertainty around “La Araña” could end up affecting much of the club’s sporting and financial planning for next season, which is why they are pushing for a quick resolution.
Julián’s intentions are already known inside the club
Although Atlético publicly remains calm, the club is fully aware that the World Cup-winning striker is seriously considering a new challenge next season.
According to multiple reports in Spain, the player’s preferred destination would be FC Barcelona, a club that has closely monitored his situation for months.
Despite that, Atlético’s position has not changed. Julián Alvarez remains under contract until 2030, carries a €500 million release clause, and the club is under no financial pressure to sell — a very different reality compared to previous years.
Atlético sets an enormous asking price
Because of that financial stability, Atlético Madrid believes any interested club would need to submit a completely extraordinary proposal.
Sources around the club suggest negotiations would only realistically begin at around €150 million, a figure that currently appears impossible for Barcelona to afford.
While some potential scenarios have included player swaps involving names such as Ferran Torres, not everyone within Atlético’s hierarchy supports that route. Certain decision-makers would rather secure a massive cash-only transfer if the club ultimately loses one of the pillars of its project.
Arsenal remain attentive
Beyond Barcelona’s interest, European giants such as Arsenal have also been monitoring the Argentine international for quite some time.
Both clubs possess far greater financial power than Barcelona and could more easily approach Atlético’s valuation. However, neither option reportedly fully convinces the player, who still prioritizes the possibility of moving to Camp Nou.
For now, Atlético Madrid insists that Julián Alvarez remains a central part of the club’s future plans. Still, the club also understands that if the player truly wants to leave, the offer must arrive quickly enough to allow time to rebuild the squad before the transfer window closes.
