Argentina’s New Gem Shows off a Photo With Messi and Is on Barcelona’s Radar
The Blaugrana side may be in search of their own Franco Mastantuono, and they may have already found him.
While Real Madrid made a bold move for Franco Mastantuono, FC Barcelona continues its search for young Argentine talent and may have already found a gem within the same team. In the current transfer window, it seems unlikely that the Blaugrana will add more players, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped working to unearth new prospects for the future.
Against this backdrop, one of River Plate’s emerging stars has surfaced—a South American jewel who could soon embark on an adventure in Europe.
Ian Subiabre linked to FC Barcelona
Barça signed 19-year-old Swedish winger Roony Bardghji this summer and now reportedly has its sights set on Ian Subiabre from River Plate. According to TNT Sports, the club is closely monitoring the Argentine winger, who is under contract with Los Millonarios until 2028.
Subiabre has a $30 million release clause and has already played 18 matches for River Plate’s first team, scoring one goal. His agent is the legendary Claudio Caniggia, who is currently in Europe, fueling speculation that could see the young footballer make a move to the European game.
How does Ian Subiabre, the youngster with a photo alongside Messi on social media, play?

Subiabre is a left-footed player capable of operating on both flanks. He recently stood out at the South American U-20 Championship, scoring three goals in six matches. At the upcoming U-20 World Cup in Chile, he could emerge as one of the leaders of the Albiceleste.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça plans to send scouts to closely follow young talents during the tournament, and River Plate’s Subiabre is likely to be a key focus.
Notably, Subiabre has a photo with Lionel Messi on his social media, taken when the two crossed paths at the Ezeiza Sports Complex during one of his numerous call-ups. Perhaps, in the future, Subiabre could become an idol like the number “10” at Barcelona. Anything is possible.
