How Did the Güler–Mbappé Connection Begin?

In an interview with L’Équipe, the Turkish international spoke openly about his growing on-field chemistry with the French captain.

“Our qualities are made to complement each other. We understand each other really well — sometimes just one look is enough,” Güler revealed.

Their connection has become one of Madrid’s most dangerous attacking weapons. Since the start of the season, Güler has assisted Mbappé four times, while the French star has set up one goal for him in return.

“You have to let him play wherever he wants. He’s earned that freedom — his talent justifies it. When he drops deeper, I move into his space. We don’t need to talk much to understand each other,” added the young midfielder.

Güler’s Growth at Real Madrid

The 20-year-old acknowledged that his path to success in Madrid hasn’t been easy.

“Juni Calafat explained the plan to me — he told me the first year would be tough, but that I was coming in for the ‘post-Modrić and Kroos’ era. Everything was clear and honest,” Güler recalled.

After two seasons of limited minutes, Güler has now become a key figure in Xabi Alonso’s new project. His maturity, tactical intelligence, and fluid partnership with Mbappé have turned him into one of the team’s most decisive players.

“I knew I was joining the biggest club in the world, but I also knew I had the quality to succeed here. I never doubted — I just waited for my moment,” said the Turkish playmaker, who many now see as Luka Modrić’s natural heir in Madrid’s midfield.

What’s Next for Güler and Real Madrid?

The schedule ahead is demanding. Madrid will face Getafe away, then host Juventus in the Champions League before the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona — a trio of fixtures that will test the strength of the Güler–Mbappé link.

“I’m convinced we’re moving in the right direction. I don’t know how long it will take, but we’ll be ready when the time comes,” Güler concluded, speaking like someone who already feels destined to be part of Real Madrid’s future.
