Antony Lashes Out at Manchester United and Criticizes the Club Without Filters
Brazilian winger Antony held nothing back when reflecting on his time at Manchester United, a club he accused of having “disrespected” him. The current Real Betis player spoke candidly about the reasons that led him to leave Old Trafford and explained why he chose to continue his career in Seville, even turning down more attractive offers both financially and competitively.
“They disrespected me”
The 24-year-old forward looked back on his final months in England, which he described as difficult. “They were very tough months, more than 40 days living in a hotel and training separately. I felt disrespected, although I don’t want to create controversy. I’m grateful for the titles I won, but there were more bad moments than good ones,” he said in an interview with Onda Cero.
After a successful loan spell with Betis during the second half of the 2024/25 season, the Brazilian returned to Manchester United in the summer. However, with no agreement in sight, both parties decided to part ways. The transfer was finalized for €22 million, representing a significant financial loss for the Red Devils but a sporting and personal relief for both the player and the club.
Happiness above money
Antony admitted that his priority was never financial gain but rather his well-being and that of his family. He even revealed that he turned down an offer from Bayern Munich, which was both more ambitious on the sporting side and financially superior, in order to return to the team managed by Manuel Pellegrini.
“I always put happiness first. Here in Seville I was very happy, and so was my family. Before deciding, I spoke with my wife and kids. It’s an incredible city, with wonderful people, not just the fans. Money matters, but happiness is everything. When I’m happy, things go well,” the striker explained.
His return to Betis generated high expectations after a brilliant start in his first stint, where he was even named Man of the Match twice in a row—something he never achieved in two and a half years in the Premier League. However, this season’s start has been slower, with less impact than expected.
A new chapter in Seville
Even so, Antony insists he is convinced of his decision. For him, Betis represents not just a sporting opportunity but also a place where he can feel fulfilled. “This is where I want to be,” he said.
The Brazilian heads into this new chapter determined to regain his best form, prove he can be a decisive player in La Liga, and finally put the ghosts of his Old Trafford days behind him.
