Agüero Recommends Julián Álvarez Join Barcelona
FC Barcelona continues its search for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, and one of the main targets is Julián Álvarez. However, Atlético de Madrid has already made it clear that it has no intention of negotiating his departure. Even so, from Catalonia they have received unexpected support: Sergio “Kun” Agüero sent a message to his compatriot.
In an interview with Stake, the former Argentine striker recommended that Julián Álvarez consider the option of FC Barcelona: “For Barça, it all depends on how comfortable he feels. If things go well, one day he will win the Champions League.”
Julián Álvarez’s fit in Hansi Flick’s project
In Sergio “Kun” Agüero’s view, Álvarez would fit perfectly into the system of Hansi Flick. He highlights his defensive commitment and pressing ability, qualities that would be ideal in the German coach’s tactical setup.
With constant high pressing and surrounded by creative midfielders, the Argentine could receive many balls in dangerous areas and further enhance his scoring ability within FC Barcelona.
A Complicated Transfer Due to Economic and Contractual Conditions
The recommendation from “Kun” Agüero adds weight, but the reality is far more complex. Julián Álvarez is currently an almost impossible target for FC Barcelona due to the club’s financial situation. His market value is around €100 million, and the Atlético de Madrid board has been clear: he is not for sale.
The striker is under contract and is considered a key player in Diego Simeone’s project, reinforcing the Madrid club’s firm stance on keeping him.

Other clubs interested in the Argentine striker
In this context, although Álvarez looks like the ideal profile to replace Robert Lewandowski, his arrival at FC Barcelona seems very unlikely. Neither the club’s finances nor the firm position of Atlético de Madrid make negotiations realistic, even with the backing of a figure like Sergio “Kun” Agüero, who knows what it means to wear that shirt.
Another possible destination could be Arsenal, a club that has also closely followed the striker and has the financial power to attempt such a deal. However, the final word belongs to Atlético de Madrid, as Álvarez is under a long-term contract until 2030 and remains essential in the team’s system.
Will Sergio “Kun” Agüero’s recommendation be enough to influence the future of Julián Álvarez? For now, all signs point to no.
