Trent Alexander-Arnold Confessed His Love for Barcelona and Now Signs for Real Madrid
The arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid has been made official, with a contract extending until 2031. It’s worth noting that Real Madrid made a significant effort to secure this signing, paying just over $10 million to ensure his participation in the Club World Cup.
Amid this scenario, a new piece joins the squad now led by Xabi Alonso, though he arrives with a statement that could haunt him from the start of his Merengue journey.
Is Trent Alexander-Arnold a Barcelona Fan?
The English full-back, formerly of Liverpool, will don the white of Real Madrid, but social media hasn’t forgotten the various statements he made in the past where he expressed a preference for Barcelona.
Back in 2022, during an interview with GQ magazine, Alexander-Arnold didn’t hesitate to name the Blaugrana as one of his “favorites”: “I’d say my other favorite team is Barça. I feel like they have the same values and beliefs as Liverpool. They like to bring players through the academy,” he assured at the time.
On another note, he chose Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I grew up watching Messi and that special Barcelona team with Iniesta, Xavi, Henry, Eto’o,” he added.
This isn’t the only statement favoring Real Madrid’s arch-rival or a Blaugrana icon from Alexander-Arnold. A few months ago, in February, he was asked to name the greatest player in history in a challenge.
Ultimately, between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Alexander-Arnold chose the Argentine without a second thought.
Now, the England international must earn the respect of Real Madrid fans in what will be a new era under Xabi Alonso’s leadership.
