The details of Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Real Madrid: length, debut, and more
Trent Alexander-Arnold is officially a Real Madrid player now. The Spanish club announced they’ve signed the English full-back from Liverpool on a six-year deal, running from June 1, 2025, until June 30, 2031. The club confirmed in an official statement: "Real Madrid C.F. and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for Trent Alexander-Arnold to join us for the next six seasons." This signing strengthens a key position for Xabi Alonso, who will have the player ready even earlier than expected.
Early arrival and Club World Cup debut
Although his contract with Liverpool was set to expire on June 30, 2025, Real Madrid managed to bring him in early so he can play in the upcoming Club World Cup. According to Liverpool, the Spanish side paid around 10 million euros (about 10.8 million dollars) to have Alexander-Arnold join the squad this summer. His debut is expected on June 18, possibly against Al Hilal.
The 26-year-old England international announced he was leaving Liverpool on May 5 after spending two decades at the club, turning down contract renewal offers from the reigning Premier League champions. “It’s the hardest decision I’ve ever made,” said the defender, who’ll now reunite at Real Madrid with his close friend Jude Bellingham.
In their presentation, Real Madrid highlighted Alexander-Arnold’s trophy haul with the Reds, which includes nine titles: 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 2 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, and 1 Community Shield. They also pointed out his individual honors, like making the FIFA FIFPro World 11 in 2020 and three Premier League Team of the Year nods.
Defensive overhaul and future plans
With a total investment over 69 million dollars — including the release clause paid for Dean Huijsen and the fee for Alexander-Arnold — Real Madrid is fast-tracking their defensive rebuild. The club is also working to sign a left-back to complete the key additions that will help Xabi Alonso aim for his first trophy as head coach.
