Real Madrid to Receive Champion Trophy Twice!
The La Liga champion will receive the trophy twice to celebrate with their fans and out of respect for another team at risk of relegation.
Real Madrid will receive the LaLiga EA Sports 2023-24 trophy in two ceremonies. The first, a private event on Sunday at the Valdebebas sports city, will allow them to attend institutional events and celebrate with their fans. The second ceremony will be official, taking place on Tuesday, May 14th, during their match against Alavés at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) informed Real Madrid on Tuesday morning that President Pedro Rocha would present the trophy at 9:30 a.m. (Spain time) at the Madrid sports city in an unofficial event preceding the celebrations planned for that Sunday.
Real Madrid will kick off the celebration of their thirty-sixth league title at 11:00 a.m. (Spain time), with President Florentino Pérez and the team, along with the coaching staff, receiving the trophy. They'll then embark on a tour of Almudena Cathedral and the headquarters of the Madrid Community and City Hall before heading to the La Cibeles fountain to meet the fans.
This decision by the RFEF resolves an issue that arose from Real Madrid's refusal to accept the trophy on Saturday, May 12th, at Granada's Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes, out of respect for a rival potentially facing
relegation on the same day.
To ensure that Real Madrid's players celebrate the title with the correct trophy, the Federation has opted to privately present it behind closed doors on Sunday. The team will then receive the trophy officially at their next home match at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, during the thirty-sixth matchday on Tuesday, May 14th.
On another note, Dani Carvajal, one of the team's captains, downplayed the significance of the delayed trophy presentation, emphasizing the importance of celebrating with the fans above all else.
"At the end of the day, we're here to win our games, and when they give us the cup, we'll celebrate. It doesn't matter when. We'll proudly display the cup in front of our fans when we deem it appropriate, and it won't overshadow the title celebration," Carvajal stated on behalf of his teammates.
