Raphinha reveals he had offers from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia
Raphinha opened up about one of the most decisive moments in his recent career: his almost-exit from FC Barcelona. In an interview with Catalan media, the Brazilian winger admitted that last summer he received major offers from both Premier League clubs and teams in Saudi Arabia. But he chose to stay at Barça thanks to one key figure: Hansi Flick. “The only person who could’ve stopped me from leaving was Flick—and he did,” he said bluntly.
Flick’s trust made all the difference
Despite constant transfer rumors, Raphinha never doubted his quality. “Since I arrived, every transfer window people said I was leaving, that I wasn’t good enough for this club. But I knew what I was capable of. I’m not here as anyone’s charity case,” he said. He also pointed out that the level of interest he received proves his worth: “If you’re not a top player, the big clubs in the Premier League and elsewhere don’t come calling.”
He admitted that the lack of faith from parts of the club and some fans made him seriously consider moving on. “If you’re not welcome somewhere, it’s better not to stay. But the coach called me and said he was counting on me. That changed everything for me,” said the former Leeds United man, clearly grateful for the backing of the new German manager.
Breakout season and a new deal
After a brilliant season—scoring 34 goals and providing 25 assists in 57 games—Raphinha earned himself a contract extension through 2028. “That was my goal from the start: to stay here for many years. I knew I had to perform and give my best every single match and training session to earn that,” said the 28-year-old forward with pride.
The Brazilian also shared how deep his connection with the Catalan club runs. “Since I was a kid, I followed Barça, watched them all the time. I remember Ronaldinho, Neymar, the history, the trophies, the fans… I always dreamed of playing here and writing my name into the club’s story,” he finished. And today, that dream feels more alive than ever.
