Official: Real Madrid Sign Franco Mastantuono
Real Madrid have confirmed one of the most exciting signings from South American football: Franco Mastantuono, a 17-year-old Argentine midfielder, will join the Spanish giants on August 14, 2025, once he turns 18. The young talent, who has signed a deal until June 2031, arrives from River Plate.
In an official statement released this Thursday, the club announced: “Franco Mastantuono will be a Real Madrid player for the next six seasons, from August 14, 2025, to June 30, 2031.”
A historic deal for Argentine football
This transfer not only marks a new chapter in Real Madrid’s youth recruitment strategy, but also sets a record in Argentina. According to River Plate, the total value of the deal is €63.2 million, with €45 million net going to the Argentine club—making it the most expensive transfer in the country’s football history.

The move was completed after the player, along with the Spanish club, activated his release clause on June 11. Despite the agreement, Mastantuono will remain at River Plate until after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, before officially joining the team managed by Carlo Ancelotti.
A precocious talent with Albiceleste pedigree
Having developed in River Plate’s youth academy since 2019, Mastantuono made a strong impact with the first team during the 2024–2025 season. In February 2024, he became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history. He has also made history with the Argentine national team, becoming the youngest player ever to appear in an official match for the Albiceleste.
From Madrid, the club emphasizes his potential and already considers him one of the most promising young talents in world football. With this move, Real Madrid continue their strategy of building for the future, following the signings of Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and reinforcing a squad that blends youth, experience, and ambition.
Meanwhile, River Plate bid farewell to their rising star with an emotional message: “Thank you, Franco, for your dedication and talent. It has been a source of pride to see you grow at our club. We wish you all the best in this new chapter after the Club World Cup.”
