Laporta Shuts Down Haaland to Barcelona Rumors and Lets Guardiola Breathe Easy
The Barça president clarified the club’s transfer stance, emphasizing homegrown talent over blockbuster moves
Joan Laporta made it clear during his appearance on La Nit dels Campions that FC Barcelona is not planning any big-name signings this summer. When asked about the possibility of bringing in Erling Haaland, the club president firmly dismissed the idea, bringing peace of mind to Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City camp.
Haaland Off the Table for Barcelona
Despite past rumors linking Erling Haaland to Barcelona, Laporta was quick to shut down speculation: “Although almost nothing is impossible in life, right now we are not thinking about making that kind of signing, especially since he just renewed,” he said. With those words, he ruled out any immediate plans to go after the Norwegian striker.
This statement strengthens Guardiola’s project at Manchester City, where Haaland remains a central figure in the attacking lineup. It also eliminates any short-term threat from the Catalan side when it comes to prying the Ballon d’Or contender away from the Premier League.
A Focus on the Barça Identity
Beyond the Haaland discussion, Laporta emphasized that the club’s sporting strategy will revolve around developing and trusting the talent already in-house. He pointed to names like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Frenkie de Jong as the current cornerstones of the team. Regarding Nico Williams, Laporta admitted that the club had considered him but ultimately chose Dani Olmo, and is now looking at other, undisclosed options.
He acknowledged that some squad changes are likely but avoided revealing details: “Maybe one per line,” he hinted, while leaving the final decisions in the hands of sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick. Laporta also noted that Barça’s rivals are already familiar with the team’s style of play, meaning the club must evolve tactically to stay competitive.
In closing, Laporta reiterated his vision: a mix of homegrown talent from La Masia with external signings who dream of playing for Barcelona. As it stands, the club will steer clear of galáctico-level pursuits like Haaland—at least for now.
