Laporta Makes a Surprising Move with Hansi Flick after Beating Real Madrid to LaLiga
FC Barcelona has wrapped up a brilliant season in which they not only secured the LaLiga title, but also lifted the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. After sealing the league championship with a 2–0 victory over Espanyol in a decisive derby, the Catalans celebrated their 28th title, although not on the pitch due to safety concerns. However, while celebrations were still echoing through the streets of Barcelona, club president Joan Laporta made a surprising move that guarantees continuity for this successful project.
Laporta makes a surprising move with Hansi Flick after beating Real Madrid to LaLiga
In an interview with El Món a RAC1, Laporta confirmed that Hansi Flick’s contract has been extended until 2027. The decision caught many off guard, as the German coach was already tied to the club until 2026 and has previously expressed a preference for short-term contracts. "We’re thrilled with his work. He’s brought back the team’s competitive edge and made everyone feel important," Laporta said with enthusiasm.

The president also emphasized that a large part of the team's success comes from Flick’s personality: "He has discipline, structure, but also sensitivity. He’s enjoying himself here, and he told us this is one of the happiest times of his career."
Negotiations were finalized after the recent Clásico at Montjuïc, where Barça defeated Real Madrid 4–3 in a key moment of the season. That victory further cemented Flick’s status as the leader of this new era and Laporta’s man to continue building long-term.
Speaking from the press room at RCDE Stadium, Flick was visibly moved by what the team had achieved: "What we have here is something unique. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. We’re a family." He also dedicated the title to team doctor Carles Miñarro, who passed away in March: "He will always be in our hearts."
Flick admitted some decisions were difficult—such as replacing Iñaki Peña with Wojciech Szczesny in goal—but stressed that the coaching staff and the strong group spirit were key to achieving the domestic treble.
With Flick’s renewal all but official, Barcelona now looks to the future with optimism, built on a solid foundation and a coach who has restored the team’s competitive identity.
