Javier Tebas Warns Barcelona Over Pursuit of Nico Williams and Joan García
FC Barcelona’s ambition to bolster their squad with promising talents like Nico Williams and Joan García has hit a regulatory roadblock. LaLiga president Javier Tebas issued a stern warning about the club’s ongoing financial limitations, which could prevent the registration of either player despite increasing transfer speculation.
Signing Is Not the Same as Registering”
Speaking to the media, Tebas directly addressed the situation surrounding Joan García, the Espanyol goalkeeper, whose release clause is rumored to have already been triggered by Barcelona.
“Making Joan García’s signing official is one thing—registering him is another. They need to make moves… we’re not even in the registration window yet,” Tebas said.
He reiterated that Barcelona still fails to meet the 1:1 rule, a financial regulation that requires clubs to match each euro spent on signings with equal revenue or wage savings.

Doubts About Nico Williams Deal
As for Nico Williams, one of LaLiga’s rising stars at Athletic Club, Tebas showed skepticism regarding Barça’s financial capacity.
“Does Barça have the money to sign and register Nico? I don’t know… you hear so many names. First, we need to see if there's even a real operation to register. Right now, I don’t know,” he remarked.
