Brazil Puts Pressure on Ancelotti: Deadline Set for Decision
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has issued an ultimatum to Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti to make a final decision about his professional future. According to ESPN, the South American federation has extended its original deadline to show empathy for the Italian manager’s situation, as he has yet to clarify whether he will remain at the Spanish club or take on the challenge of managing the Brazilian national team.
Brazil Gives Ancelotti an Ultimatum
The crucial date set by the CBF is May 26, right after the LaLiga season ends with Real Madrid hosting Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu. The reason is simple: Brazil is unwilling to wait for Ancelotti to lead Madrid in the Club World Cup in June. They want the new national team coach in place before announcing the squad for the June World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.
For now, there is no official agreement between Ancelotti and Madrid regarding an early departure. Despite reportedly having a verbal agreement with the CBF, the lack of clarity surrounding his future with the Spanish giants remains a stumbling block in finalizing his appointment as Brazil’s head coach.
Financial issues are another complicating factor. Ancelotti still has one year left on his contract with Real Madrid, and an early exit would trigger a hefty release clause. However, if the club decides to part ways with him following a season without the Champions League, Copa del Rey, or potentially even LaLiga, the compensation owed would be significantly reduced, making the move more affordable for the CBF.
If Ancelotti chooses to leave on his own before his contract ends, he would lose a substantial portion of his severance package. One possible solution would be for Real Madrid to pay a percentage of his remaining salary while the CBF covers the rest to ease the transition.
In the meantime, Florentino Pérez and Ancelotti are expected to meet in the coming days to discuss the matter. Should no agreement be reached, Brazil already has backup options in mind, including Jorge Jesus of Al Hilal and Abel Ferreira, coach of Palmeiras.
With the deadline looming, pressure is mounting on Carlo Ancelotti, and his decision could shape the future of two footballing powerhouses.
