Ancelotti Says Winning LaLiga Is the Only Way to Save Real Madrid’s Season
Carlo Ancelotti, head coach of Real Madrid, admitted on Saturday that the current campaign “has not been good” for the club. However, he remains confident that it can still turn into a very successful season — but only if Los Blancos manage to win the LaLiga EA Sports title. With five matches remaining and a four-point gap to FC Barcelona, the Italian coach believes there is still everything to play for.
“Right now, it’s not a good season, but if we win the league, it could be a very good one,” he stated at the press conference.
Champions League and Copa del Rey Disappointments
Real Madrid were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League and recently lost the Copa del Rey final, piling pressure on the outcome of the domestic league. Still, Ancelotti expressed optimism:
“It hasn’t been a spectacular season, but we have five games left and anything can happen. What we cannot do is give up.”
All Eyes on LaLiga… and Celta
The next challenge comes this Sunday, May 5, against Celta de Vigo at the Santiago Bernabéu (14:00 CEST / 08:00 AM ET), in a match that could prove crucial in keeping their title hopes alive.
“Celta are a very good team; they nearly beat Barcelona recently. We’re confident we can get the win,” said Ancelotti.
The coach also praised his team’s defensive improvements, after winning three consecutive games 1-0, although he acknowledged a drop in attacking output:
“We’ve improved a lot defensively, but we’ve lost some attacking efficiency.”
Vallejo Could Start; Güler Gaining Importance
With five defenders unavailable —Carvajal, Militão, Rüdiger, Alaba, and Mendy— Jesús Vallejo may get playing time:
“He has more chances to play tomorrow.”
Ancelotti also spoke highly of Arda Güler, highlighting the young Turkish talent as a key part of the club’s long-term plans:
“He’s going to be a fantastic interior midfielder. He has quality, great game sense, and is making very good progress.”
