An emotional farewell at the Santiago Bernabéu
The final matchday of LaLiga at the Santiago Bernabéu marks the end of an era for both Real Madrid and Real Sociedad. For the home side, it’s an emotional goodbye to two club legends: coach Carlo Ancelotti and midfielder Luka Modric. The Italian is set to take charge of the Brazilian national team after a second successful spell packed with trophies, while Modric, with 28 titles under his belt — and one more up for grabs at the Club World Cup — bows out at 39 as one of the greatest ever to wear the white shirt.
On the football side, there’s nothing major at stake for either team. Real Madrid, hit hard by injuries, will be missing key players like Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, and David Alaba, and they’ll wrap up the season with a heavily depleted squad. Still, stars like Vinícius Júnior and Brahim Díaz are expected to feature, as the club looks ahead to a big squad overhaul for the next campaign.
As for Real Sociedad, it’s also a meaningful farewell: coach Imanol Alguacil will take charge of his last match after more than six years at the helm, during which he led the team to a Copa del Rey win and consistent European finishes. This could also be the final outing for Martín Zubimendi, one of the academy’s brightest talents. Despite some key absences, the Basque side will be aiming to end the season on a high and give their coach the send-off he deserves at a venue as iconic as the Bernabéu.
