The uncertainty is over. FIFA has officially confirmed a new kickoff time for the Round of 16 match between Mexico and England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup because of severe weather conditions in Mexico City.
The match, originally scheduled to start earlier, will now kick off at 7:00 p.m. local time (Mexico City), which is 9:00 p.m. ET in the United States.
FIFA Confirms the New Kickoff Time
After monitoring the weather conditions and following its safety protocol, FIFA decided to postpone the kickoff to protect players, match officials, stadium staff and fans.
Before the official announcement, journalists, staff members and supporters inside Estadio Ciudad de México were instructed to remain sheltered while officials evaluated the storm.
FIFA has now confirmed that the match will begin at 7:00 p.m. local time (9:00 p.m. ET).

Why Was Mexico vs England Delayed?
The decision follows FIFA's severe weather protocol, which allows matches to be delayed when thunderstorms or other dangerous conditions pose a risk to players, officials, stadium personnel or spectators.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has already experienced weather-related interruptions.
During the group stage, France vs Iraq in Philadelphia was suspended for more than two hours because of severe weather.
Later, Mexico vs Ecuador, played in the Round of 32 at Estadio Ciudad de México, was also delayed due to storms.
Now, Mexico vs England joins the list of World Cup matches affected by weather, although FIFA has confirmed that the game will still be played later today under the revised schedule.
