Why Lamine Yamal's Father Hasn't Been With Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Lamine Yamal has had the support of his mother, brother and close friends throughout the World Cup, but one important family member has been noticeably absent from Spain's matches.
One familiar face has been missing from Spain's World Cup journey
Lamine Yamal has enjoyed plenty of support during his first FIFA World Cup. Throughout Spain's campaign, his mother, Sheila Ebana, his younger brother Keyne, and several close friends have been spotted cheering him on from the stands.
One family member, however, has been noticeably absent.
His father, Mounir Nasraoui, has not traveled to the United States, despite having followed his son's journey during Spain's triumphant UEFA Euro 2024 campaign.
A health condition prevented him from making the trip
According to comments attributed to Nasraoui by people close to him, his absence is related to an ongoing health condition.
Lamine's father reportedly suffers from epilepsy, a neurological disorder that makes long-haul travel significantly more complicated and has prevented him from flying to North America for the tournament.
"I don't know if I'll be able to go because of my epilepsy," Nasraoui reportedly said in comments published by El Español.
Beyond the lengthy flight, traveling between multiple World Cup host cities across the United States, Mexico and Canada would also present additional challenges.
Lamine has still had plenty of family support
Although his father has been unable to attend, the Barcelona star has continued to receive strong support from those closest to him.
His mother has accompanied him throughout the competition, while his younger brother Keyne became a viral sensation after enthusiastically celebrating Spain's goals during the tournament.
For an 18-year-old playing in his first World Cup, having familiar faces nearby has provided valuable emotional support during one of the biggest moments of his career.
Spain's dream continues
Now focused on the quarterfinal against Belgium, Lamine Yamal remains determined to help Spain continue its run toward the World Cup title.
The winger has frequently spoken about the important role his family has played in both his personal life and his development as a footballer, making his father's absence even more meaningful during the tournament.
While Mounir Nasraoui has been unable to support his son from the stands, he will undoubtedly be following every step of Spain's World Cup journey from afar as Lamine looks to lead La Roja one step closer to the trophy.
