A DIFFERENT STAGE OF THE TOURNAMENT
From this stage onward, there will be no evening kickoffs. With the exception of the third-place match, both the semifinals and the World Cup final will kick off at 1:00 PM ET.
The semifinal matches will be played during the week, with the tournament set to conclude next weekend.
France vs. Spain will be Match No. 101 of the tournament, while England vs. Argentina will be Match No. 102. With the World Cup expanded to 48 teams, the total number of matches has increased from 64 to 104. The semifinalists will also be playing their seventh match of the competition—the number that finalists used to reach under the previous format. The expanded tournament introduced an additional knockout round, the Round of 32, meaning finalists now have to play one extra game to lift the trophy.
The semifinals will also mark the final World Cup matches at two host venues. Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will have staged nine matches, while Atlanta Stadium in Georgia will conclude its tournament after hosting eight.
