The remaining contenders include the three host nations—United States, Canada and Mexico—along with global powers such as Lionel Messi's Argentina, Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal, Kylian Mbappé's France, Brazil and Spain.

With several blockbuster matchups already on the schedule, the race for the World Cup is about to intensify.

Could France and Argentina meet again in the final?

The tournament bracket leaves open the possibility of another World Cup final between Argentina and France.

Before that can happen, Argentina must overcome Mohamed Salah's Egypt, while France faces a dangerous Paraguay side that has become one of the tournament's biggest surprises.

Morocco hopes to continue its dream run

After its historic performance at Qatar 2022, an impressive display against Brazil earlier in this tournament and its AFCON title, Morocco once again looks capable of challenging the world's elite.

The Atlas Lions begin the knockout stage against Canada.

Haaland vs Vinicius and Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lamine Yamal

The Round of 16 also features some of the tournament's biggest individual battles.

Brazil takes on Norway in a clash between Vinicius Jr and Erling Haaland, while Portugal faces Spain in a showdown featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and Lamine Yamal.

Mexico will also look to continue its perfect campaign against an England side led by Harry Kane.

Will there be extra time and penalties?

If a Round of 16 match is tied after 90 minutes, two 15-minute periods of extra time will be played.

If the score remains level, the winner will be decided by a penalty shootout, beginning with five kicks per team before moving to sudden death if necessary.
