According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Colombian is in negotiations with US Avellino, a Serie B club in Italy, in a move that could mark his return to European soccer. Talks are reportedly at an advanced stage, although the financial terms still need to be resolved.

At the moment, US Avellino represents the most concrete option for James Rodríguez to return to Europe. The Italian club currently sits fifth in Serie B after the opening rounds of the season and has set its sights on competing for promotion to the top flight.

The project also has a particularly attractive element: the team's manager is Alessandro Nesta, a 2006 World Cup winner with Italy and former AC Milan defender. According to reports, Nesta has reportedly been in direct contact with James Rodríguez in an attempt to convince him to join the project.

The main obstacle is the financial agreement. However, because James is currently without a contract, he can reportedly join the club even after the transfer window has closed. If the deal goes through, it would give the Colombian an opportunity to regain regular competitive playing time in Europe.
