Vinicius Jr has been one of Brazil's standout performers at the FIFA World Cup 2026, but ahead of the Round of 32 clash against Japan, the Real Madrid star experienced one of the tournament's most emotional moments.
The Brazilian forward broke down in tears during an interview with Brazilian broadcaster Globo after watching a surprise video message from his grandmother, Nilza, who played a fundamental role in his upbringing.
The message that moved Vinicius
During the television show 'Domingão', hosted by Luciano Huck, Vinicius watched his grandmother recall their years together and wish him success for the remainder of the World Cup.
"He was a shy little boy. Football was everything to him. He slept beside me until he was 16 years old."
She ended her message with heartfelt words that left the Brazil star in tears.
"Vini, my grandson, may Our Lady of Aparecida always protect you. Your grandmother loves you very, very, very much."
"She did everything for me"
Fighting back tears, Vinicius explained how important his grandmother has been throughout his life.
"My grandmother did everything she could to help me, even though we lived in a very small house. That's why I slept beside her."
He also spoke about cherishing every moment with his family.
"She changed my life. Whenever I can, I stay close to her because I know that one day the people we love will no longer be here. I enjoy every moment with her and with my family because they did everything to help me achieve my dream."

Brazil counting on its star
While the interview showed his emotional side, Vinicius has also been Brazil's biggest attacking weapon at the tournament.
The Real Madrid winger has recorded four goals and one assist during the group stage against Morocco, Haiti and Scotland, and will once again lead the Seleção when Brazil faces Japan in Houston for a place in the Round of 16.
