Vinicius Jr apologizes after Brazil's elimination and vows to keep fighting for the World Cup dream
Vinicius Jr broke his silence following Brazil's elimination from the FIFA World Cup 2026 and issued an apology to supporters for the national team's performance.
Vinicius Jr broke his silence following Brazil's elimination from the FIFA World Cup 2026 and issued an apology to supporters for the national team's performance.
Five days after the 2-1 Round of 16 defeat to Norway, the Real Madrid forward admitted feeling an “unbelievable level of frustration”, but also promised to continue fighting for Brazil's dream of returning to the top of world football.
Vinicius apologizes to Brazil supporters
The forward explained that he needed several days to reflect before addressing the painful elimination.
“I apologize, and I will fight for our dream of returning to the top of the world.”
Vinicius said remaining silent would have been unfair after the support the team received throughout the tournament.
“I know how much I prepared, how focused I was and how badly I wanted this for all of you and for my family.”
He shared the message alongside a picture of himself lying on the pitch, capturing the disappointment of Brazil's early exit.
“We had a team capable of going further”
Vinicius insisted Brazil had enough quality to reach the later stages of the tournament, but acknowledged that the team failed to achieve its goal.
“We had a team strong enough to go further, but we couldn't do it.”
He also reflected on what it means to represent his country at a World Cup.
“Wearing the national team shirt is the greatest pride of my life, and leaving the World Cup in the Round of 16 is a feeling that is difficult to explain.”
Vinicius keeps Brazil's dream alive
Despite the disappointment, the forward made it clear that the defeat has not changed his commitment to the national team.
His promise is focused on the future and on Brazil's biggest remaining goal: returning to the summit of international football and winning the World Cup again.
Brazil's standout performer
Vinicius was Brazil's best performer during the tournament, recording four goals and one assist.
However, those numbers were not enough to prevent the country from matching the second-worst World Cup finish in its history.
Following the elimination, the forward began his vacation before returning to Real Madrid to prepare for the start of the new season.
