United States Predicted Lineup to Face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32
The United States enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage with no room for error. Mauricio Pochettino is expected to rely on his strongest lineup against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a match that could define the host nation's tournament.
The United States faces its biggest test of the 2026 World Cup
The United States begins the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a high-stakes clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a team that has already proven it can challenge anyone and will be eager to pull off another surprise.
Mauricio Pochettino's squad enters the match full of confidence after an impressive group-stage campaign. The tournament hosts displayed an aggressive, high-energy style of play, defeating Paraguay and Australia with convincing performances that highlighted the identity the Argentine manager has quickly built.
The defeat against Turkey in the final group-stage match did little to change the overall picture. With qualification already secured, Pochettino rotated several key players, keeping his core squad fresh for the knockout rounds.
The predicted United States lineup against Bosnia
The Argentine coach is expected to stick with his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, a system that has allowed the Americans to press aggressively, attack with pace and maximize the quality of their attacking players.
The predicted lineup is:
Matt Freese; Alex Freeman, Tim Ream and Chris Richards; Sergiño Dest, Tyler Adams, Malik Tillman and Antonee Robinson; Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie; Folarin Balogun.
Matt Freese is set to remain between the posts after delivering composed performances throughout the tournament. The back three should once again feature veteran leader Tim Ream, alongside the dependable Chris Richards and breakout defender Alex Freeman.
Out wide, Sergiño Dest and Antonee Robinson provide pace and attacking width while also contributing defensively. In midfield, Tyler Adams remains the heartbeat of the team, bringing balance and leadership, while Malik Tillman offers mobility, pressing and creativity between the lines.
Pulisic and Balogun lead the American attack
If one player is expected to make the difference, it is Christian Pulisic. Although he has yet to score in this World Cup, the AC Milan star remains the creative engine of the American attack and the player capable of changing a game with one moment of brilliance.
Alongside him, Weston McKennie provides relentless energy, late runs into the box and the versatility to impact several midfield roles depending on the flow of the match.
Leading the line is Folarin Balogun, who heads into the knockout stage in outstanding form after scoring twice against Paraguay during the group phase. His pace, physical strength and movement make him the focal point of the U.S. attack.

Bosnia has already surprised the tournament, and the United States wants to avoid becoming the next victim
Bosnia and Herzegovina advanced as one of the best third-place finishers in the group stage and has shown that it can compete when the pressure mounts.
The European side managed to salvage a draw against Canada, lost to Switzerland, and secured the win it needed against Qatar to stay alive in the tournament.
That run makes Bosnia a tough opponent, especially since it has already made it clear that it doesn’t need to dominate games to create danger. For that reason, Mauricio Pochettino’s team will need to dictate the pace from the start and avoid giving confidence to an opponent that has nothing to lose.
