Germany striker Deniz Undav believes Jurgen Klopp's appointment as head coach will bring a "new energy" to the team.

Klopp was named as the new Germany boss last month, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who left following their last-32 exit at the World Cup.

Germany were stunned by Paraguay on penalties – the game finished 1-1 after extra time – in what was their first knockout-stage game since winning the tournament in 2014.

Undav made four appearances at the World Cup, though started only one as he racked up 149 minutes of action.

He did score three times, though, including a late double to secure a comeback victory over Ivory Coast.

Undav is confident Klopp's arrival can serve Germany well, though he acknowledged he will need to earn his place in the squad.

"I think a change of coach is like a club change; every player has to prove themselves anew, there's new energy," Undav told reporters at Stuttgart's pre-season camp.

"It could be a completely different line-up than under the previous national coach. So just perform well, and then hopefully I'll be appreciated and invited."

Despite Germany's struggles in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Undav was able to quickly put the disappointment behind him.

"That took about a week [to get over]," he added.

"None of us expected it, and that's why it came as a surprise to everyone, but as I said, they were just mental exercises for me."

Germany's first match under Klopp will see them face the Netherlands in the Nations League on September 24.
