Tuchel has 'full belief' England can win the World Cup
England have not won the World Cup since 1966, but head coach Thomas Tuchel believes they can end their wait for glory this summer.
Thomas Tuchel has "full belief and excitement" England can end their 60-year wait to win the World Cup.
England are searching for their first World Cup triumph since 1966, and they impressed in qualifying as they won all eight of their games.
The Three Lions did not concede a single goal during their qualifying campaign, making them the only team not to concede in the UEFA qualifiers; England’s 2.1 xG against was also the best expected goals against total of all European teams.
England will be making their 17th World Cup appearance – it also marks their eighth consecutive participation, the longest uninterrupted run in their history.
Tuchel, meanwhile, is set to become the third non-Englishman to lead the Three Lions at a World Cup after Sven-Goran Eriksson (2002, 2006) and Fabio Capello (2010).
England face New Zealand and Costa Rica in their two warm-up matches before their World Cup opener against Croatia on June 17.
They will also face Ghana and Panama in Group L, and Tuchel is feeling optimistic.
"When I reconnected with the games and built our training sessions and meetings to reconnect the team in Florida with what we have built already, I saw a lot of quality," Tuchel told Sky Sports News.
"That instantly gave me the full belief and excitement that we can go a long way.
"Then things like the difficult phone calls, big phone calls, positive phone calls and the reaction of the players, it tells you that we have a connection already.
"It tells me the players care and they care so much. We had beautiful, touching reactions, even from players who were not called up and they were wishing us all the best.
"The way they reacted tells me we are on the right way and that gets me personally excited to be close.
"I can't wait to get on the plane, look over my shoulder, finally have a team behind me and arrive in Florida and do what I love the most, which is be a coach."
