Spain Breaks Historic Streak and Eyes Another Record
Spain's victory over France did more than secure a place in the 2026 World Cup final. La Roja surpassed Argentina's unbeaten run and now has the chance to set a new all-time record.
Spain's remarkable run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to rewrite the history books. After defeating France 2-0 in the semifinals, Luis de la Fuente's side not only booked its place in the final but also reached a historic unbeaten milestone.
The victory in Dallas extended Spain's unbeaten streak to 37 consecutive matches, surpassing Argentina's previous run of 36 games without defeat, achieved between 2019 and 2022 before ending with the shocking loss to Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the Qatar World Cup.
Spain's last defeat came on March 28, 2024, when it suffered a 1-0 friendly loss against Colombia. Since then, La Roja has remained unbeaten across all official competitions, establishing itself as one of international football's most consistent teams.
The streak also matches Italy's famous run of 37 unbeaten matches, recorded between 2018 and 2021, placing Spain alongside one of the greatest sequences in the history of the international game.
Although Spain lost the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League final to Portugal on penalties, the match officially ended 2-2 after extra time, meaning it counts as a draw rather than a defeat in FIFA statistics.
Now Spain has the opportunity to stand alone in the record books. Avoiding defeat in the World Cup final would extend its unbeaten run to 38 matches, setting a new benchmark while also giving La Roja the chance to lift football's biggest trophy.
